Sustainability label for certified breeders

NoviPlus sets requirements for the breeding company and the slaughterhouse in terms of animal health, human health (antibiotics), animal welfare, and the environment.

Animal Welfare

  • There is a balanced distribution between roosters and hens

  • The animals can move freely

  • The stocking density is a maximum of 7 hens/m²

  • Laying nests are available, where the hens can retreat in peace and quiet

  • There are raised resting places in the house

  • Play material is available

  • Grass is scattered, allowing the animals to scratch to their heart’s content

  • The presence of a ventilation system ensures a pleasant and constant climate

Animal Health

  • Various preventive hygiene measures in the house

  • The use of dry litter which contributes to a healthy house climate

  • Annual inspection of the ventilation system by a house climate expert

  • Data relating to animal health and animal welfare are recorded directly in the house and fed back to the poultry farmer, who can then take targeted measures

  • The requirements package is adapted to new developments in society and the sector

Environmental Measures

  • Limitation of ammonia emissions

  • Limitation of energy and water consumption

  • NGOs such as Solidaridad and Natuur en Milieu are actively involved in the design and development of the program

  • Audits and certification by CDB/Verin for breeders and slaughterhouses

  • Annual sustainability report

  • Respecting the ETI code (Ethical Trading Initiative)

  • A star rating of zero, with an absolute maximum of five day portions of fipronil (DDDAF) antibiotic for the breeding companies
